This summer we managed to squeeze a short holiday in amongst the photo bookings, family weddings and slo-pitch tournaments.  We drove to visit our dear friends in Manitoba, about 30 minutes south of Winnipeg.  Now, if you’ve never travelled 8+ hours in a car with a rambunctious nearly 2 year old, you’re probably wondering “Ya? And?”  If you HAVE travelled 8+ hours in a car with a rambunctious nearly 2 year old, you’ve probably broken out in a cold sweat and you’re bracing for the horror stories to start.  To be totally fair, Cole did as well as can be expected of a nearly 2 year old.  We made lots of stops so he could run around and burn off some energy, and we made a few detours along the way to keep it interesting.  We knew that when we finally did arrive, we’d be home.  We don’t feel like company there.  We’ve known them for years – I knew them when they were single and I photographed their wedding for pete’s sake.  We’ve seen them become parents and they’ve guffawed behind their hands at our attempts at parenting.  Cole is the same age as their youngest (though their youngest is about to become their middle, so bring on the therapy bills!!)  The boys played and we got some major grown up visiting in.  We made it to a Rider game.  We went to Ikea.  And I did family photos for them, just in time for them to be out of date!!  Now granted, we had to do a little re-shoot with their oldest (who for some reason refused to smile on day 1!!) but all in all, it was a success.

To my special peeps a province away, I say thanks for the hospitality.
